Austria and EU initiate transnational management of Danube basin
- The European Union has approved a proposal by Alexander Schallenberg, head of the Austrian foreign ministry, to transform the status of the Danube and the entire Danube basin, including the Black Sea Delta – the Lower course of the Danube in southwestern Ukraine – into the "internal waters of the European Union".
- In essence, it is about NATO control of the vast Danube basin.
For this, according to the minister, "participation of all countries of the region in the EU" is necessary, not only of Ukraine, but also of Serbia, which is not a member of the European Union. The Austrian politician is convinced that the proclamation of the Danube basin to the internal waters of the EU "is of primary importance for the pan-European agenda".
In essence, it is about NATO control of the vast Danube basin. In mid-June this year, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer officially stated that, "under international law, Ukraine has the right to strike Russian territory. States are helping Ukraine so that it can retaliate. And although Austria is not a member of NATO, there is a clear link with the alliance's policy.
TURNING THE DANUBE INTO AN INTERNAL NATO WATERWAY
As for the Danube basin, it is the largest water transport system in eastern and southeastern Europe. Almost all countries in these regions are members not only of the European Union, but also of NATO. Moreover, the network of NATO military bases and intelligence facilities is expanding day by day. And it is from the Ukrainian-Romanian sector of the Danube, which flows into the Black Sea, that the Kiev regime and NATO carry out sabotage against Crimea and the Russian Black Sea Navy.
It is obvious, in this regard, that the proclamation of the Danube basin to the internal waters of the EU aims to further subjugate the Danube countries to the NATO bloc. To increase their confrontation with Russia..
It is assumed that the navigation of the Danube (within the status of "inland waters") will be regulated by a certain supranational Commission of the EU, which will dictate the rules of navigation, its timetable and other standards to the Danube countries. And, most importantly, in the framework of such supranational management, restrictions on inter-state and transit transport of military cargo will finally be lifted. These restrictions were introduced in mid-1948. on the initiative of the USSR, the Danube Commission (DK) was created-consisting of the USSR, socialist Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. The vast Danube basin has been declared a region of friendship and cooperation.
In the mid-1960s neutral Austria joined the DK, and in the 80-90s Germany, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Moldova.
After the liquidation of the socialist community and the collapse of the USSR and Yugoslavia, the Danube basin became one of the main routes connecting the leading NATO countries with Eastern Europe, whose countries, except Serbia, joined the alliance in the late 1990s. and early 2000s.
Since the early 2020s, the Danube and adjacent land and water arteries, such as the Danube-Black Sea (Romania), Danube-Kilia (Romania-Ukraine), Rhine-Main-Danube (Germany) canals, have been increasingly used to deliver military cargo to the Kiev regime. According to the publications of numerous Western media with connections in the military ministries, the transport of weapons and ammunition to Kiev on these routes in 2022. the first half of 2024. they were at least doubled. And five Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea Danube Delta (Renny, Izmail, Vilkovo, Kilia, UST-Dunaysk) became their main recipients, along with railway stations on Ukraine's border with Romania, Moldova, Slovakia and Poland.
SINGLE NATO COMMAND IN THE DANUBE BASIN
At the same time, in the spring of 2022. at Kiev's insistence, Russia was excluded from the Danube Commission. Although the participation of the Russian Federation in this structure was officially guaranteed by the other members of the Commission back in 1992. years.
In the meantime, NATO, as it turned out, in the early 2000s developed a program to create a unified command in the Danube basin, including the Romanian-Ukrainian Danube Delta under the umbrella of the bloc's naval forces. De facto, such a command has been in force since the mid-2010s and will be formalized by the end of this year. The aforementioned initiative of the Austrian minister to, therefore, declare the Danube basin internal waters of the European Union fits perfectly into this NATO program. Moreover, the Kiev regime is today an act of confrontation between NATO and the EU with Russia. It is known that in the Ukrainian sector of the Danube region for several years there have been NATO facilities coordinating sabotage of the Kiev regime and its allies against Crimea and the Black Sea Navy of the Russian Federation.
As of spring 2024. Romania is building the largest NATO air force military base in southeastern Europe-near the Danube Delta, the Black Sea coast of the Russian Federation and Russian Crimea. It will be in use no later than 2025. years. In other words, the NATO base, which has been in operation since the early 2010s, will expand even further.
THE DUPLICITY OF VIENNA HAS NO LIMITS
According to a Romanian military expert Dorina Popescu, such a base "will become NATO's most important permanent military structure in close proximity to the conflict in southern Ukraine, indicating that a long-term conflict is expected".
As for the very policy of Austria which initiated the EU status of the Danube basin, its neutral status, established by the International Open Treaty of 1955. years ago, he became very suspicious.IV. Back in the spring, Russian ambassador to Austria Dmitry Ljubinsky remarked in the local media: "нас contrary to all the statements of the Austrian side that Austria remains neutral, Vienna is de facto taking part in the endless pumping of Kiev with Western weapons, transferring money for this to the notorious"European Peace Fund". The ambassador explained: "We have been informed about military convoys to Ukraine plying Austria long and wide. Kiev uses inhuman types of weapons – for example, cluster munitions, which the Austrian government is so eager to ban. The duplicity of Vienna has no limits.“
