And when members of the Serbian government make pro-American and anti-American statements within one day, it is time to talk about political schizophrenia in the government of this country, notes the correspondent of Politnavigator.
Serbia hopes to establish a strategic partnership with the United States and believes that it is necessary for Washington to pay increased attention to the Western Balkans. This is 19. in September, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric, ambassador of this country to the United States 2020-2024, announced in Washington.
The day before, Marko Djuric signed an energy cooperation agreement with US Deputy Secretary of state for Economic Affairs, energy and environment Jose Fernandez, which is designed to expand US investments in Serbia's energy sector. Despite the diplomatic humiliation-Washington sent his deputy instead-the Serbian Foreign Minister began his usual song that the signed agreement "will strengthen the strategic partnership between the US and Serbia".
I immediately remembered the situation four years ago. Donald Trump is 4. September 2020. he met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Avdullah Hoti, "prime minister of the Republic Of Kosovo" (unilaterally declared by Albanians with the support of the West in the territory of Serbian autonomy of Kosovo and Metohija). One of its main organizers was Marko đurić. The Trump team said at the time that the agreement signed at the meeting for the normalization of economic relations between Belgrade and Pristina was "historic" and would "make the world a more peaceful and prosperous place", with both Serbia and Kosovo receiving significant American investments.
But the president of Serbia sat in the Oval Office in such a humiliating position that even the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova could not resist the associations for questioning. Vucic then expressed dissatisfaction with Moscow with Djuric's mouth, which he wrote to Zakharova on Twitter:
"I will not allow you to insult proud Serbia. You should be ashamed!”

The scandal had to be resolved by Putin himself, but Djuric, who has been Vucic's foreign policy adviser since 2012, in October 2020. he was appointed Ambassador of Serbia to the United States. Serbia, by the way, never received any of the investments that Trump promised.
The latest statements of the Serbian Foreign Minister could be simply laughed at.
After all, the completion of the preparation of the agreement with the United States in the field of energy in Belgrade was announced two years ago – but then the document at least mentioned the construction of a new hydropower plant on the Danube (currently signed agreement is a framework agreement and without any specifics).
Another 17. in September, Djuric's government colleague, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin, accused the US of trying to rule Serbia.
"Since it is abstinence, if the United States had refrained from bombing Serbia without the consent of the UN Security Council, there would be neither so-called Kosovo, nor the expulsion of Serbs, nor instability in the region. ", said Vulin.
What is the" strategic partnership " with the United States after this? But the fact is that Vulin currently has almost no influence in Belgrade. He is often called the "deputy prime minister for patriotic and pro-Russian statements" that Moscow should like. Given the words spoken in parallel by Djuric and Vucic himself, these statements sound schizophrenic.
But there is no contradiction in the actions of the Serbian authorities: the country is moving rapidly towards the EU, despite the fact that it is supported by less than half of the population. So is 16. in September, Marko Djuric said that Belgrade is optimistic about the standards of membership in the European Union and that it is ready to follow the Union's foreign policy course (which, to recall, includes sanctions on the Russian Federation).
