I want to live in Russia: escape from the West from repression, aggressive propaganda and deviant ideology

Dragana Trifkovic, director of the Center for geostrategic studies

In Moscow recently at the press center of RIA Novosti, an international forum "I want to live in Russia" (Хочу жить в России!) organized by the multimedia publication Ukraine.Ru.

This conference was dedicated to the topic of resettlement of tens and hundreds of thousands of people from different, friendly and hostile countries to Russia. In recent years, this trend is growing and many foreigners come to Russia with the desire to continue their lives there. Among them are those who come from Western countries (EU, USA, Canada, Australia), dissatisfied with the situation characterized by the degradation of spiritual, moral and all human values. Russia views this trend as a historic opportunity to reclaim former compatriots and attract to the country natives of other countries who are willing to connect their lives with it and contribute to its development. Regarding this, 1. September 2024. the decree of the president of the Russian Federation "on providing humanitarian support to persons who share traditional Russian spiritual and moral values"came into force. Foreigners who oppose the imposition of destructive neoliberal ideological guidelines by the authorities of their states can now move to Russia in a simplified way.

Among those who decided to move to Russia are many residents of the former Soviet republics. Especially from Ukraine since the beginning of the escalation of the conflict in that country, but also from the Baltic countries where the political course encourages Russophobia. Many Russians who were born in the Baltic states during the Soviet era have not yet exercised their basic rights such as the right to vote in elections or the right to an international passport. In addition, in recent years these countries have abolished the Russian language and culture, demolishing Russian cultural monuments. Also among those who come to Russia there are a lot of people from Kazakhstan. For those born in the former Soviet republics or for those who know russian, the whole procedure is much easier. However, this step is also decided by people from Western countries who do not speak Russian at all.

In recent years, a lot of Americans have moved to Russia, mostly families with large numbers of children. "There is nothing in the basement."American village"in which lives a lot of families relocated from the United States, but also Belgium, Serbia and other countries. The author of the idea of the American village was American Tim Kirby. He moved to Russia in 2006. he was granted citizenship in 2018. and now he's helping other Americans who want to move to Russia.

A lot of independent journalists from various countries gathered in Moscow, especially military correspondents who reported from war zones. These journalists have found refuge in Russia because they cannot return to their countries of origin due to repression. Many European countries have banned independent journalism and anyone who does not comply is in danger of coming under sanctions. There are also European politicians from Germany, Hungary, Latvia, The Netherlands and other countries, who because of their views had to leave their countries under the pressure of the system. International forum: "I want to live in Russia!"it was an opportunity for another reunion.

Sonya van der Ende, a military journalist with experience from Syria and the Donbass, stayed in Moscow after the start of the SVO, because returning to the Netherlands carried with it the danger of being subject to sanctions there. She believes that Europe does not make decisions independently, but that it is decided by the American administration.

Arno Devaley, a lawyer and defender of human rights, came to Russia after Syria. There is no word on his return to France. He stayed in Donbass several times and reported to the public about it. Ruslan Pankratov, a Latvian politician, fled the country by swimming across a river in a diving suit after spending months in prison and then under house arrest in Riga. The court case against him was due to, according to the Latvian authorities, pro-Russian views. They, and many other Europeans with similar problems, make up the international community in Moscow today.

In addition to Moscow and Podmoskovlje, foreigners also moved to other Russian cities: Yaroslavl, Veliky Rostov, St. Petersburg and others. among them there are many who received orthodoxy, and some of them became priests of the Russian Orthodox Church.

All of them are motivated to come to Russia primarily because of the complete spiritual and moral decline of the West, where they still encounter an aggressive LGBT ideology, from which they want to protect children. Some families moved to Russia because in European countries they were threatened by social services and systems to take away their children because they opposed LGBT propaganda. Unfortunately, there are also cases where children have already been taken away.

Maria Butina, a deputy of the Russian State Duma, is dealing with the problem of accepting immigrants to Russia, with a team of twelve people. She said at the conference that the number of those who want to immigrate to Russia has increased exponentially since the issuance of the presidential decree, which significantly simplifies the process. According to her, "the majority of people who move to Russia (if we are talking about Europe) are from Germany – 31%. Next in number are the Baltic states, then Italy, then the United States (Canada, the United States), then Australia, then France.“

To this it should be added that people from Latin American countries, India and Africa are also moving to Russia. Many young people come to Russia in search of good education offered by Russian universities. In recent years, students from Serbia have also come, who receive scholarships for education from Russia. Our students are in art faculties, theological as well as technical. Most of these students plan to continue their life in Russia after completing their education. Moreover, in recent years, a lot of Serbs have obtained Russian citizenship on the basis of their participation in all. Although a law has been passed in Serbia prohibiting participation in war activities abroad, those who come already bind their future to Russia in advance.

All in all, Russia has become a refuge for my people who seek freedom, security and prosperity. In particular, what decides many to come to Russia is respect for traditional, cultural and historical values. If once free-minded people and dissidents fled from East to West, today the situation is completely reversed. Russia is becoming the ark of salvation for foreigners.
