CENTER FOR GEOSTRATEGIC STUDIES is a non-governmental and non-profit association, founded in Belgrade at the founding assembly held on 28.02.2014. in accordance with the provisions of art.11. and 12. Law on associations ("Official Gazette of Rs", no.51/09). for an indefinite period of time, in order to achieve the goals in the field of scientific research of geostrategic relations and preparation of strategic documents, analysis and research. The association develops and supports projects and activities aimed at the state and national interests of Serbia, has the status of a legal entity and is registered in the register in accordance with the law.

The association was established to meet the following common interests and objectives:

  1. Scientific research of geostrategic relations and development of strategic documents, analysis and research.
  2. Defining the National Strategy of Serbia in accordance with geopolitical changes.
  3. Establishing contacts and participation in various international organizations in order to achieve the state and national interests of Serbia.
  4. Implementation of analysis and research programs that contribute to the return of sovereignty, strengthening of institutions and the rule of law in Serbia.
  5. Organizing lectures, seminars, round tables, public forums and events.
  6. Collecting and processing scientific and professional literature in the field of activities of the Association.
  7. Publishing printed, electronic and video material.

The idea for organizing associations (NGOs), which will deal with geostrategic issues, and from the position of achieving national and state interests of Serbia, came about after many years of experience in the political activities of the founders of the organization and the perceived need for the existence of such an organization. NGOs today have a great influence in civil society and deal with a wide range of different topics, from local, state, regional to international level. The concept of active participation of non-governmental organizations in numerous social activities was established at the end of the twentieth century, and from the 1990s the expansion of the non-governmental sector began. This concept originated first in the United States, then spread to Western Europe, and then to Eastern Europe, Russia, Latin America, etc.

"Transformation of the non-profit sector and its organizations implies commitment to Mission, responsibility of Management in achieving effective results, as well as inclusion of training and training and encouragement and strengthening of the voluntary sector, but above all it represents a new kind of responsibility towards society and indicates new ways of bonding and contributing to the community at the local, national and international level" (panić, 2016: 45).

Considering that the concept of non-governmental organizations came from the West, and that many social and political platforms implemented through the non-governmental sector are also originally from the West, the founders of the Center for geostrategic studies were guided by the idea that it is necessary to find a balance between the concept of Western policies and the interests of society in Serbia. This idea turned out to be grounded, but due to its specificity it remained largely limited by conflict of interest. Over time, the non-governmental sector has gained the function of controlling factor of the executive, legislative and judicial authorities, but with difficulties in achieving communication, especially cooperation with the authorities. On the other hand, non-governmental organizations that do not deal with topics that Western power centers are interested in, find it very difficult to find alternative sources of funding, in the absence of other projects. Data from the Serbian business registers Agency indicate that (December 2022 there are over 36,500 registered non-governmental organizations in Serbia. The first non-governmental organizations appeared in Serbia also in the early nineties. Given that the founders of the Center for geostrategic studies had many years of experience of political and social activism, and thus insight into the environment, defining the vision and mission of the organization based on already existing ideas, it was not a difficult task.

The defined mission of the Center for geostrategic studies so far is: "we do not want to be politically correct, but politically responsible and objective", which indicates the need for complete independence in acting from imposed policies and emphasizing responsibility as a basic value.

The mission of the Center for geostrategic studies is to influence social change, especially in the domain of national policy, through its continuous action. One of the intentions is to better position Serbia in geopolitical changes and preserve state and national interests. By participating in the work of the Center for geostrategic Studies, members of the Association have the opportunity to influence positive changes and contribute to them through their work.

The vision of the founder of the Center for geostrategic studies is closely related to the design of the association's position as one of the leading NGOs, recognizable for representing state and national interests. Here it should be borne in mind that the Association was designed to operate at the international level, with an ideological foothold at the state and national level, which in the current circumstances was not an easy task. Nevertheless, it has been shown that it is possible to develop international cooperation on these grounds, which include finding associates on the basis of mutual respect.

Given that the Center for geostrategic studies has been in operation for ten years, which is the planned period of the life cycle of the strategy, it can be determined that the right time is right to formulate a new strategy. To this end, the need arose to define a new mission and vision of the organization. The previous mission of the Center for geostrategic studies is: "we do not want to be politically correct, but politically responsible and objective", which indicates the need for complete independence in acting from imposed policies and emphasizing responsibility as a basic value. In ten years of work, the Center for geostrategic studies has become recognized for its independent activity, professionalism and responsibility and has gained authority in certain international, regional and state circles. Given that the geopolitical changes envisaged by the Center for geostrategic studies are largely ongoing, it is necessary to redefine the mission of the Center in accordance with the current state and future prospects.

The new mission of the Center for geostrategic studies"We are building the future because Serbia deserves it: the values we stand for are established through our history, culture and tradition. We believe that without the past there is no future. For this reason, in order to build the future, we must know our past and cherish our traditions. True values are always grounded, and the future cannot be built in a good direction without that foundation. In a time of disruptive geopolitical change, it is crucial to make wise choices and make the right decisions. Let go of all imposed and distorted ideas and artificial urges. We firmly believe that Serbia has enough quality and potential to determine its own future, regardless of threats and limitations. We are committed to the Serbian position and the right to decide our own future, bearing in mind the fact that historically there have been many challenges, threats and dangers that we have overcome. “

A New VisionThe Center for geostrategic Studies seeks to become one of the world's leading organizations in the field of geopolitics. He also wants to become a local brand. We will try to interest the public in Serbia in international topics and gather all those interested in protecting state and national interests, strengthening sovereignty, preserving territorial integrity, preserving traditional values, strengthening institutions and the rule of law. We will act in the direction of finding like-minded people, both in the domestic and in the world public. We will focus on regional cooperation and networking of related NGOs, both at the regional and international level. We will launch projects at the international level to support the repositioning of Serbia and the preservation of territorial integrity. In cooperation with media houses, we will implement projects that are focused on these goals. We will organize education of interested public through conferences, round tables and seminars. We will try to find a model for the development of the organization that would enable the financing of the activities of the Center.
